‘Volkswagen of America’ will change its name to ‘Voltwagen of America’ from ril 2021. Yes, you read that right. Given the timing, the first reaction to this news was that this was going to be a hoax by the automaker to promote its electric vehicles. But no, it’s not just a prank. The German auto giant is in fact changing its official brand name to “Voltwagen of America” in the United States of America – a move that clearly underscores the automaker’s electric ambitions in the US market.
Volkswagen will rename itself as “Voltwagen of America” for the US market.
Scott Keogh, President and CEO of Voltwagen of America, said of the name change:
“We may be swapping our K for a T, but what we’re not changing is this brand’s commitment to making world-class vehicles for drivers and people everywhere. The idea of a ‘people’s car’ is the real fabric of We have been from the start of our transition An Electric Future said that we will build electric vehicles for millions, not just millionaires. This name change is a nod to our past as people’s car and our firm belief that our future lies in being people’s electric car. “
4 is currently the only electric vehicle that VW is selling in America.
Volkswagen says that the new name symbolizes the brand’s dynamism of moving people from point to point with electric vehicles. It must be noted that Volkswagen’s transformative journey and focus on electric vehicles in the US was catulted after the Dieselgate scandal in 2015. It was found that Volkswagen’s diesel engines emit 40 times more NOx than was legally permissible in real driving conditions. Therefore, the name “Voltwagen” will be specific to the US, while the automaker will continue to use its original name in other markets around the world.
Initially, it was also assumed that this change would only be temporary or for a certain period of time, as rebrandings can be expensive. Every reference to the company has to change, be it online or one of the many documents dealers use to sell a vehicle. In addition, Volkswagen sells many vehicles in the USA that do not offer any electrification. In fact, the only Volkswagen EV currently for sale in the US is the ID.4. It may therefore seem a bit premature to change the name to “Voltwagen” when so many products are not electric vehicles.
However, the automaker has revealed some more details about the name change. Volkswagen will have a unique identity for both electric and combustion vehicles. The electric vehicles bear the Voltwagen emblem, and the ICE models continue to bear the existing VW name and emblem. The Voltwagen branding is immediately introduced in advertising, on its website and on social media. The change will officially take place in May 2021.
