Skoda yesterday presented the brand new Kushaq in India worldwide and the first impressions are really very positive. The Skoda Kushaq has everything it takes to be a successful product in India – style, loads of functions, good driving dynamics, safety and powerful engines. The Kushaq is the first Skoda Auto Volkswagen India product to be supported by the MQB-A0-IN platform. Given that the Kushaq has 95% localized content, its pricing should also be very competitive. A comparison with that Kia Seltos – one of the best-selling SUVs in this segment – is therefore inevitable. So here we compare the technical data, dimensions, design and characteristics of the Skoda Kushaq vs. The Seltos.
Skoda Kushaq vs Kia Seltos – dimensions
Dimensions | Skoda Kushaq | Kia Seltos |
length | 4.221 mm | 4,315 mm |
width | 1,760mm | 1,800mm |
Height | 1,612mm | 1,620mm |
Wheelbase | 2,651mm | 2,610mm |
A look at the dimensions reveal that the Seltos is longer, taller and wider than the Kushaq and by a considerable margin in some aspects. The Kushaq does actually look a tad bit smaller than the Seltos even with naked eyes. That said, the size of the Kushaq should be very convenient for most Indian roads. Where the Kushaq does have an edge over the Seltos is with its wheelbase, which is the longest in the segment. That translates to good space on the inside. Although the Kushaq has the longer wheelbase, it is still shorter than the Seltos because it has really short overhangs.

Skoda Kushaq vs Kia Seltos – engine specifications
Skoda Kushaq | Kia Seltos | |
engine | 1.0 l 3-cyl. Turbo / 1.5 l 4-cyl. turbo | 1.5 l 4-cyl. NA / 1.4 l 4-cyl. turbo |
power | 115hp / 150hp | 114PS / 140PS |
Torque | 175 Nm / 250 Nm | 144 Nm / 242 Nm |
transmission | 6-speed MT, 6-speed AT / 6-speed MT, 7-speed DSG |
6-speed MT, CVT / 6-speed MT, 7-speed DCT |
Both the Skoda Kushaq and the Kia Seltos are offered with two petrol engines. The 1.5 liter naturally aspirated engine of the Seltos is comparable to the 1.0 liter turbo gasoline engine of the Kushaq. While both engines are almost identical in terms of performance, the Kushaq has more torque thanks to the turbocharger. It produces as much power as the Seltos, but thanks to the turbocharger again with a smaller engine and one less cylinder. While both engines are offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, the Selto’s automatic transmission is a CVT unit. Meanwhile, the Kushaq gets a decent torque converter automatic transmission.
The larger turbo gasoline engines of both SUVs are more consistent in terms of technical data. Both engines have four cylinders, although the Kushaq has a bit more displacement. The Kushaq still has 10 hp and 8 Nm more torque than the Seltos. In terms of specs pro, the Kushaq clearly has the upper hand. Interestingly, both SUVs are offered with a 7-speed DCT and a 6-speed manual transmission with turbo gasoline engines. In this specification, the Skoda Kushaq will be a lot more fun with its fantastic 1.5L TSI engine and famous 7-speed DSG gearbox.
Where the Seltos has an advantage over the Kushaq is with its diesel engine. The also offers a 115PS / 250Nm 1.5L diesel engine on the Seltos. The engine is equipped with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Today, diesel engines tend to be more popular in this compact SUV segment and there are statistics to support it. This is where the Kushaq will really be absent compared to its competitors.
Skoda Kushaq versus Kia Seltos – exterior design
While styling can definitely be a subjective choice, choosing between these SUVs is tough when it comes to their looks. When Kia debuted the Seltos in 2019, it was by far the best looking car in its segment, and even a segment above. Now in 2021, the Kia Seltos still looks as fresh and contemporary as ever. Slightly more extroverted than the Kushaq, the Seltos seamlessly combines simple and extravagant designs to create a beautiful, muscular SUV. The signature LED headlights and well-shaped face and rear still create a buzz on the road.
The Skoda Kushaq follows a much more conventional, but eye-catching design philosophy. It looks typically like Skoda with its butterfly grille flanked on both sides by split LED headlights. The proportions are just right, the clear and clean lines give it a no-nonsense look and the heavy body paneling and the sturdy underrun protection plates on the front and rear bumpers give it a sturdy and muscular SUV effect. It’s hard to choose between the two SUVs as far as their looks go, and it really boils down to personal preference.
Skoda Kushaq versus Kia Seltos – interior design
Fortunately, both SUVs also have a very nice interior design. The large case with the instrument cluster and infotainment screen still looks dramatic. The asymmetrical design of the center console, the flat-bottomed steering wheel and the general quality, fit and finish of the interior are still highlights of the Kia Seltos. As with the Kushaq, the ergonomics of the switchgear are just right.
Speaking of which, the Skoda Kushaq also has a beautiful interior. The design is extravagant and the dashboard has a nice layered effect. The glossy black decorations in the two-tone interior create a drama and the ergonomics are just right here too. Overall, both interiors feel equally high quality and upscale, but maybe the Kushaq looks a bit nicer.

While most functions are standard in both SUVs, the Seltos also has a heads-up display (only SUVs with this function in this segment), a 360-degree parking camera, an 8-way driver’s seat and a 7-inch -Digital MID screen. and even a Bose sound system. Other features such as ventilated seats, wireless charging, connected car technology, cruise control, steering wheel-mounted controls, etc. are standard on both SUVs.
