With Skoda Shortly before the global debut of the Kushaq on March 18, 2021, the carmaker announced some new details about the upcoming compact SUV. At the beginning of last month, the Czech automaker unveiled outline sketches of the exterior of the production Kushaq. This time Skoda has previewed the interior of the serial Kushaq using new sketch images. Most gratifyingly, the final design looks pretty much the same as the one Vision IN Concept That was presented at the 2020 Auto Expo.

What immediately catches your attention is the large touchscreen infotainment screen (up to 10 inches) that takes center stage on the dashboard. The cabin has a two-tone black and white color scheme with orange stripes on the dashboard and the lower part of the center console adding visual drama. The ergonomics of the cabin also seems to get pretty straight to the point, considering that all of the controls appear to be perfectly positioned. The large digital driver display will also be one of the noticeable features of the Skoda KushaqCabin.

The other most notable thing about the Kushaq’s interior is the two-spoke steering wheel that looks like a straight lift out of the Kushaq 2021 Excellent. If you remember the inside of the Vision IN concept, you’ll notice that the horizontal air vents look pretty similar and are even connected by a silver stripe along the width of the dashboard. The AC controls under the central air vents are likely touch-based devices as shown in these sketches. It should also fare well in terms of practicality, as there are storage spaces and cup holders on the center console, as well as large door compartments.

The Skoda Kushaq is offered with two petrol engines in India. The VW Group’s 1.0-liter TSI turbo gasoline engine will be the mainstay of the Kushaq. This engine is combined with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Skoda will also offer a larger 1.5-liter TSI turbo gasoline engine that will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission. This is the same engine used on the Karoq and Karoq VW T-Roc.

The carmaker had previously announced that the Kushaq will have a wheelbase of 2,651 mm. Not only is that longer than the wheelbase of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos (2,610mm), but it’s also longer than even that Karoq. That should really be reflected in the spacious interior. However, it will be smaller than those like that MG Hector and the Tata Harrier.

The Skoda Kushaq will be the first Skoda Auto Volkswagen India product to be supported by the MQB-A0-IN platform. This is a highly localized version (with up to 95% local content) of the VW Group’s smallest modular platform, the MQB-A0. Due to the strong localization and sharing of essential components with other models, Skoda should be able to position the Kushaq very aggressively in the market. We expect prices to be between INR 10-16 lakh (ex showroom). The Kushaq is expected to hit the market in May / June 2021.
