As if we needed another reminder to keep our eyes on the road, a herd of deer in rural Oakland County, Michigan shows how chaos can be wreaked in a split second. Leing ungulates recently flew right in front of, over and over an innocent BMW 5 Series gleefully driving down a wooded street, and everything was captured on the dashcam.
The video took place on February 26th but was released by the earlier this week Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. The footage shows a black bimmer driving through a remote, wooded route. Suddenly a group of deer leaps from the trees in front of the car and asks the driver to step on the brakes and hit the shoulder. Despite the BMW’s heavy braking, there is still enough momentum from the 4,000-pound sedan to carry it into the Bambis River.
We are sure the deer were just as perplexed. “What’s the matter with this big steel object that suddenly plows into our procession? We’re running egg cells here!” Fortunately, white tails can jump, and you jump straight up, land on the roof of the BMW, and jump into the woods like nothing has ever been weakened. Another is not so lucky, he lands on the trunk and slides back in the direction he came from. Hopefully it made friends later.
The action was recorded on the dash cam of an Oakland County sheriff’s cruiser. The office assures us that no animals, hooves or people have been injured. However, we have to praise the BMW driver’s quick reflexes, although we would probably be quite vigilant if we were to drive a BMW in front of a police car even on a deserted road.
So the lesson here, kids, is to only buy cars that have good brakes and sharp handling! No, wait, it was to keep your eyes on the road. But also buy good cars.
