Buying Your First Car? How to Prepare Before You Start Looking at Scions

If you recently got your driver’s license, you probably enjoy the freedom and thrill of being able to drive around on your own without one of your parents sitting in the passenger seat next to you. But, if you don’t have your own car, sharing a car with one of your parents is probably not ideal. However, this can easily be remedied by purchasing a new Scion. Affordable, reliable, and stylish, these vehicles were created specifically to appeal to the younger crowd.  However, before you start browsing for the car of your dreams, you need to do your homework. To start, ask yourself:

  • How are you going to finance the car? Will you do it on your own or will your parents help you out?
  • What is your budget? What can you spend on a new vehicle?

After you’ve asked yourself these two questions, you’re almost ready to start looking at the car you want to buy.

 Financing Your First Vehicle

If you can buy your first vehicle with cash, that’s great! However, as a teenager, your after-school job probably won’t turn you into a millionaire anytime soon. Even if you don’t have the cash to buy a car in full, you can still finance it. The typical rule is that you should have 20 percent of the car’s value saved up as a down payment. If you can’t afford to put down 20 percent, you may want to consider waiting to buy a car until you have this much saved up.

Since the majority of lenders base your ability to pay back a loan on your credit score, it may be difficult to acquire financing if you don’t have any credit established. However, if you’re worried about being able to get financing without an outrageously high interest rate, consider asking your parents or someone with a good credit score if they would be willing to co-sign on the loan.

 Reasons to Buy a Scion

After you’ve determined your budget, saved up a sizeable down payment, and talked with your parents about co-signing on a loan, you’re ready to start looking at cars. With so many different models and manufacturers out there, it may be difficult to pick out the right car. However, there are several reasons why you should buy a Scion.

The first reason you should buy one of these vehicles is because they were specifically created to appeal to teenagers and young adults. In 2002, Toyota Motor Company launched Scion with the long-term goal to attract Generation Y.  Upon introduction, they only had two vehicles in their lineup – the xB and tC. However, today they have expanded their lineup of vehicles to include a diverse selection of models which include the xB, tC, xD, iQ, and FR-S.

Not only are there a wide variety of different models to pick from, but Scion also uses a “pure price” system. This means that when you see a car advertised by this manufacturer for a certain price, it will be sold for that exact price. As a first-time car buyer, you can’t go wrong with one of these affordable, practical, and stylish vehicles.
