BMW The M340i will shortly be launched in India on March 10, 2021. Prior to its launch, the automaker began making official bookings for this performance-based item BMW 3 Series Variant. The booking amount is tied to INR 1 lakh and the car can be booked online in the BMW online shop. BMW has also announced that the first 40 customers to book the car will complete specially curated driver training on a popular race track in India. The BMW M340i will be the first M car to be assembled on site here in India.
The BMW M340i is a perfect balance between suitability for everyday use and thrills, depending on what suits your mood. The M340i may not be an absolute M-car, but it certainly isn’t a sucker. Under the hood, the BMW M340i is powered by a 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder petrol engine that generates 387 hp grunt and 500 Nm peak torque. The engine is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the power of which is transmitted to all four wheels via BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive.

This four-door sedan can sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.4 seconds. Since this is an M-specified car, it naturally gets its share of M-performance improvements. These include a stiffer M Sport chassis, a faster and more direct rack with a variable gear ratio and improved M Sport brakes. You also get an M Performance Active Sound exhaust system that calls out pure music when you step hard on the throttle. The xDrive all-wheel drive system is preloaded at the rear and transfers more torque to the rear wheels. When paired with an M Sport differential, you’ll often get your tail popping out.
Visually, the M340i looks largely similar to the standard 3 series. However, there are some visual improvements as well. The most notable change is the new kidney grille with chrome bezels. The front bumper is much more muscular and aggressive, and screams out for its sporty demeanor. Compared to the regular 3 series, the M340i sits approx. 10 mm lower. The M Sport exhaust has two outlets at the rear. There are also a couple of ‘M’ badges on the outside. Overall, the M340i may look like a sleeper, but we like it that way.
Inside the M340i is equipped with sports seats and an M branded steering wheel. Apart from that, all the bells and whistles of the standard 3 series have been carried over to this M-Spec model. Because of the local assembly, the BMW M340i should be competitively priced which is expected to be around 65 INR (ex showroom). It will take care of that Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupé and the upcoming Audi S5 Sportback.
