After a series of teasers, The have finally introduced the 2022 Carnival MPV for the North American market. Essentially a replacement for the Kia Sedona in the US, Mardi Gras 2022 features an extravagant new design inside and out. It’s also packed to the brim with features you’d expect from a modern Kia car. The new generation Kia Carnival was revealed worldwide in June last year and after a period of about 8 months it finally hit the US market.
One of the biggest talking points about the new Mardi Gras is that it will be the first Kia vehicle in America to boast of it new Kia logo. In terms of design, Carnival is certainly one of the best looking MPVs out there. The carnival is characterized by sharp and bold lines and has a daunting presence, much like the brand’s newer SUVs. In fact, the design was written in Kia’s California design studio. The face is adorned with a large, sturdy “tiger nose” grille with elegant LED headlights and a well-shaped bumper. The upright and box-shaped profile gives it an SUV character at the rear.
Inside, the new carnival is modern through and through. The dashboard is adorned with two digital screens, which is becoming a trend these days. The rest of the dashboard and switchgear is very well finished with high quality materials. In the US, the Mardi Gras is available in either seven or eight seat configurations. The 7-seater version can be equipped with the VIP lounge seats, which offer leg extensions, ventilated seats for the second row, power control, access to infotainment via voice control, fold-out headrests and much more.
The equipment list for the new carnival includes two 12.3-inch screens (one for the infotainment system and one for the instrument cluster), automatic climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, and Android Auto and Ple CarPlay with connected car technology. It is also monitored with a night vision camera and an intercom in the back seats. The second-row seats are even removable, with the third-row seats folded flat to reveal premium cargo space. The most important safety features of the new carnival include automatic braking, avoidance of blind spots, high beam assistant, etc.
Under the hood, the US Carnival is offered with a single-engine option. It is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine that generates 290 hp and a maximum torque of 355 Nm. The engine is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels. According to Kia, the new Carnival has a towing capacity of 1,587 kg, which is better than some special pickups. The carnival also has 12 ADAS functions (Advanced Driver Assistance System) such as forward collision avoidance assistant, lane departure warning, driver warning and much more. It is expected to be available in the US market in the second quarter of this year.
