2022 Genesis GV70 luxury SUV’s first MPG numbers revealed
The first Genesis GV70 looks as hot as any compact luxury SUV currently on the market and will hit the showrooms this year as the 2022 model. While Genesis has kept the sales date and prices for its second SUV after the larger GV80 under wrs, we know that two engine variants will be available. However, the newest member of the Korean luxury brand faces stiff competition that includes the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo X60. We here at MotorTrend Cant wait to see how the GV70 can hold up against these competitors in the broadest sense, but we now have an indication of how it will perform on the fuel economy battlefield.
That’s because the official EPA ratings for the V-6-GV70 have just been announced. Equipped with a 3.5-liter four-wheel drive engine, the Genesis GV70 has an output of 19 MPG in the city, 25 MPG on the highway and 21 MPG combined. The numbers for the 2.5-liter GV70 are not yet in, but we suspect the model will be offered with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. We expect both models to be more efficient than the GV70 with the six-cylinder option.
However, the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (300 hp, 311 lb-ft of torque) will be limited to the base GV70. With higher equipment, the more powerful 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 pumps out 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Great inside and out, the GV70 is a game changer from an evolving automaker that seems to get better over time. Just like the GV80, this luxury crossover will compete against other established models. Stay tuned for pricing and driving impressions that will help make the 2022 GV70 a competitive business.
