The second generation Mahindra Thar has been one of the most successful vehicle launches in India recently. Within a few months of launch Mahindra had to increase production by 50% to meet the unexpected demands. Even then, the Thar currently has a wait until 2022, and Mahindra didn’t have to make new bookings for a while to keep the waiting list off. The 2020 Thar is a brand new model based on an entirely different platform and adding new powertrain options. In contrast to its beloved predecessor, which was a hardcore off-roader, the new one has modern comfort and functions that make it a real everyday driver without compromising on off-road capabilities. The new Thar already offers a large selection of accessories for the aftermarket. Today we came across this example that looks like a baby Jeep Wrangler

As you can see in the pictures, this Mahindra Thar has been extensively modified in 2021. The first thing you’ll notice is the new camouflage job the SUV is getting. The front end receives new LED headlights, a classic 7-slat grille in Jeep style and a new smaller metal bumper with larger oil pan protection. The bumper also has two high-performance tow hooks so that it can be easily clamped in the event of problems. Although the alloys remain in stock, the multi-purpose tires have been replaced with off-road tires. Overall, this modification is very tasteful and given that the Thar is already inspired by the Jeep Wrangler, these changes to this Thar make it very easy to be confused with one.

The prices for the new Mahindra Thar are between 12.10 and 14.15 rupees (ex showroom). The new Thar is equipped with two engine options, a 2.2 liter turbo diesel and a 2 liter turbo gasoline engine. The oil burner reaches peak values of 130 hp / 320 Nm, while the gasoline reaches maximum values of 150 hp / 320 Nm. The transmission options for both drivetrains are a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with a low-range box. You also get a transfer case and a mechanically locking center differential for proper off-road driving.
