Chevrolet Sales India Private Limited (CSIPL) is the 5th largest automobile manufacturer in India. They have been in the car manufacturing and sales business from 2003. This unit of the General Motors India Limited has plants in the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra. The Chevrolet Beat is a hatchback which comes with petrol and diesel variants and is the most stylish among the small cars even though the prices are comparatively higher. The Beat diesel variant is presently the cheapest diesel hatchback available in Indian market.

The Beat launched in early 2010 has 4 petrol, 4 diesel and 2 LPG variants priced from Rupees 3.97 to 6 lakh ex-showrooms. At the front, the Beat has a twin black colored grille with chrome edges with the Chevrolet badge in between and twin barrel head lamps stretching to the back of the hood. The sloping roof with silver rails, the prominent wheel arches, the crisp lines running along the sides and the integrated rear door handles give a sporty look to this car. At the rear there is a rear spoiler, high mounted stop lamps and jewel effect tail lamps. For the top variants there is a B pillar styling strip and body colored ORVMs.

The Beat has adequate comfort and safety features. A manual AC and an integrated music system with CD player, MP3 player and AM/FM radio are available inside. For safety there is an engine immobilizer, a tilt steering, the ABS, the dual airbags and the child lock facility. The body coloured ORVMs are internally adjustable and have turn indicators for higher variants.

The fuel efficiency of Beat makes it a highly competitive city car. The petrol versions give mileages of 18.6 kmpl with 1199 cc, 80 bhp and 108 Nm torque engines. The diesel variants use 936 cc, 57 bhp and 150 Nm torque engines with a mileage of 25.44 kmpl. The LPG variants use 1199 cc engines with 13.3 km/kg fuel economy.

The physical dimensions of the Beat are 3640 mm length, 2375 mm wheel base and 165 mm ground clearance. The Kerb weight is 965 kg for the petrol versions and 1027 kg for the diesel variants. The suspensions are McPherson strut at the front and the compound link type at the rear. The power brakes are disc type at the front and drum type at the rear with 14” radial steel (alloy for top variants) wheels.

The Chevrolet Beat comes in attractive colours of Caviar Black, Misty Lake, Super Red, Green Cocktail, Summit White, Switch Blade Silver and Sand Drift Grey. This sporty car faces competition from the likes of the Hyundai i10, the Maruti Wagon R and the Ford Figo.
