If you’re looking to find a new car that caters to the family, there are a lot of things to take into consideration so that you can find exactly what you need. Everyone will have their own criteria, but here are the most common things that are put in question.

How many seats do you need?

A standard car will be a four or five-seater, and while this will cater to most, if you have an exceptionally large family, then this won’t do. So you will have to look at some seven seater vehicles instead. There are even eight and nine seaters out there on the market if need be.

How often will the seats be used?

If you know that you have a family that includes seven people, it’s important to think how often you all go out together. Because while your number may be seven, you may find that you only ever go out on group ventures with five max. So would it really be necessary?

How much seating room is needed?

If you have young children, then you don’t have to worry about them taking up a lot of room, so if you do have a large seater car, two seats situated in the far back won’t be a problem. But if you’re children are all grown up, they may not be able to fit in the back because they’ll be too big. Also, remember that kids grow, so if you were planning on having this car for a while, bigger might be better.

How often would you use the car?

How you use the car will play a big part in what you’ll need. If you only plan on using the car on weekends with the family, then something with higher running costs could give you the extra space you need. Or vice versa – if you plan on using it during the week for school runs, then something that’s a little smaller with built-in techs like cameras and parking sensors will be a great bonus.

How much boot space do you need?

If you know that you enjoy going away with the family on road trips or camping weekends for example, then you’ll want a decent sized boot so that you can fit everything you need like your luggage and accessories that you want to bring. So have a look at the different sizes that are out there and how much room they give you.

What about extra features?

If you have kids that are gadget-driven, then having the feature to plug in a USB and AUX like the subaru xv offers, and playing games or listening to music may be a bonus feature to keep the young ones quiet through a long journey. Or maybe the ability to attach extra items to your car by having roof rails will be a big help.

So now you know what to look out for – have fun picking out your new baby.
