This post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

Prior to January 1st, 2012, Walgreens was part of Express Scripts provider network.  As the new year approached, Walgreens approached Express Scripts in order to acquire a new contract that would allow them to continue working together as part of their pharmacy provider network.

Unfortunately the negotiations fell short of expectations and fell through leading to an abundance of negative feedback from customers.  This situation has lead to having patients travel out of their way to different pharmacy locations in order to acquire their prescriptions.  Not only has this proven to be detrimental to convenience but it has also lead to patients having to spend more money on their prescriptions than they would have if they were Walgreens customers.  Having to switch pharmacists can prove to be quite unsettling as maintaing a relationship with a specific pharmacist introduces comfort and reliability to Walgreens customers.  For more information on the Walgreens, refer to this link and you will receive a special discount on annual membership for its Prescription Savings Club.

Although the request for the new contract proved to be unsuccessful, Walgreens wants to maintain their working relationship with the American military and their Tricare coverage.  As one of Express Scripts’ clients, Tricare provides prescription drug programs and health programs for the men and women who have enlisted into the military.  Within the requested contract and in an attempt to refrain from increasing costs to the American military, Walgreens assured Express Scripts that they would provide better pricing per prescription than all other pharmacies that are found within Tricare’s network.  These requests were also declined by Express Scripts.  This will inevitably lead to the American military still having to spend a copious amount of money to fill their prescriptions rather than reaping the benefits of Walgreens’ competitive prices.

The main objective of Walgreens is to provide their customers with the utmost amount of care and an efficient and cost effective service.  Unfortunately due to the negligence of Express Scripts, Walgreens will no longer be able to assist their customers as part of Express Scripts’ pharmacy network.  Although the contract was declined by Express Scripts, Walgreens has implemented a special discount on their annual memberships so that you and other Walgreens customers can become a part of their Prescription Savings Club.

As many Walgreens customers have been in an outrage and expressing their opinions through various resources, you will also have the opportunity to do so.  Contacting your local media service and voicing your dissatisfaction with the lack of resolution for this contract will have the potential of benefiting both yourself and Walgreens.  Also, providing your support to Walgreens during this trying time is possible by liking them on Facebook and/or following them on Twitter.  If you are one of the hundreds of thousands of individuals who are being forced to travel out of your way and pay larger fees for your prescription, let your voice be heard!
