Who doesn’t fancy a good old road trip with family, picture it now the wind in your hair, snacks for the journey and kids shouting “are we there yet”? Okay, maybe not that last part, but you know what we mean. To help you over the Summer break we’ve put together a list of 5 breathtaking UK routes for family road trips:
Peak District (Snake Pass) – England:
Don’t worry, the actual route isn’t as intimidating as it sounds. Snake Pass is located in the Derbyshire section of Peak District and it crosses the Pennines and Ladybower Reservoir. This road was engineered and built in 1821, meaning it dates back almost 200 years. The pass also carries the A57 road between Manchester and Sheffield.
If you cruise through this pass, you can expect some amazing scenery; make sure you take a camera. We challenge you to take a family selfie along the way (driver of the vehicle not included).
Abergwesyn Pass – Powys, Wales:
You may not know how to pronounce it, but that won’t stop you from loving it. This pass offers a mix of bridges, ascents/descents, tricky bends and more. Going at cruising speed will ensure that you and your family will be able to take in all of the gorgeous scenery which includes; mountains, forests and adorable little villages.
NOTE: This pass can be dangerous if you’re going at high speeds, if you’re with the family please go slow.
Highlands – Scotland:
Visiting Scotland anytime soon? This is a MUST on your checklist. If you love open roads surrounded by beautiful mountains and icy lakes, then this is truly for you. WARNING: The Highland Fling may cause unusual behaviours, this includes never wanting to leave, making you drool over the breathtaking scenery and MUCH more.
Lake District – England:
Yes, another one in England. Some of the routes here are designed specifically for taking in the epic views, which will provide a great day out for the family. You can stop off and soak in the beauty, or stay in your car and cruise through the whole journey, the choice is all yours.
Cheddar Gorge – Somerset:
If this image isn’t already enough to convince you, we’re not sure what will. This world famous site is known for its magnificent natural beauty and reveals much prehistoric knowledge of our ancestors. Not to mention, if you fancy going rock climbing or caving, this place is known for it.
