Jeep has enlisted the help of Amazon to take in-car entertainment to the next level. It was announced that the upcoming Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will inaugurate Fire TV for Auto technology that will allow passengers to watch their favorite shows.
Although no SUV was revealed, we saw the Grand Wagoneer 2020 as a production-related concept. It revives a decades-old nameplate and honors its legacy by packing more premium features than any Jeep before, but there’s absolutely nothing retro about it. Four screens face the passengers: one replaces the instrument cluster, two are embedded in the center stack, and the fourth is on the right side of the dashboard.
It is these screens that transform the SUVs into a living room on wheels. Fire TV for Auto allows users to sync their Amazon account through Uconnect5 infotainment software to bring the entertainment they see on their TV into the cabin. Passengers can watch their favorite shows and movies while driving at 120 km / h on the freeway or stuck downtown during rush hour. And since the account is synced, they can pause a show in their house and pick up where they left off in the car.
Jeep explained that only the front and rear passengers can see content while the SUV is moving, and a privacy filter is designed to ensure the driver is not tempted to remain entertained. However, drivers can stream programs on the main infotainment screen when the transmission is in the park. Connectivity is useless in areas with no network connection. As a result, users are encouraged to download content at home (such as when connected to Wi-Fi) to ensure that it can be viewed without interruptions or in the middle of the Nevada desert roaming charges.
